Winter has finally hit New Mexico! I am one of the ones who loves the cold…the colder the better. And when it is cold and blustery outside there is nothing like coming inside to a warm home. You put on your fuzzy socks and sweatpants and sit to watch a holiday movie with a warm cup of hot chocolate. I love those moments. But last week I had an unexpected warmth hit me that was absolutely beautiful.
Julian came home. My oldest son goes to college a mere hour north in Santa Fe, but him not living in my home has been a very big change. My husband and I will normally drive up to see him for lunch on Friday’s so I get my “Julian fix.” With him so close I don’t miss him as much as I thought I would. I think it’s because I know he is so incredibly happy. When he walked in the house Tuesday morning, I raced up the stairs like a kid on Christmas morning. I hugged his neck and held on as if I had not seen him in years! The mere act of him walking through the door made my soul sing and my heart was warmed.
Throughout the week, when we were not exactly “doing” much, his presence under my roof was all I needed. The joy in my heart was all I needed for this Thanksgiving season. And yes, I had to stock the pantry better than usual because the locust had returned 🙂
I imagine that when we show up in prayer to God that He feels the same way. His kids are home having conversation and loving His presence! God is the one racing up the stairs in excitement because we came for a visit! We know where he is but sometimes forget about that important relationship that needs to be nurtured. But no matter how long between visits, His love never wanes. He loves us with an unfailing love that is greater than anything we could ever imagine.
God has blessed me with a Thanksgiving filled with the usual amazing feast for the body, but the feast for my soul was more than I could have ever imagined. Through what many would think to be a bleak time has been nothing but one filled with joy.
I don’t have a single thing to complain about. Life is good.
