My one word focus for the year has been “change.” It was an obvious choice for me at the end of 2016 and my one word selections are not always that obvious for me. I had lost my job and that alone is what brought the word “change” to my heart. Whether I liked it or not, change was happening in my life and the future was not very clear. It was pretty scary.
I am excited to say that I feel like I embraced my word and held it close throughout the year.
• I began a new, consulting job that has taken me all over the country to speak to families with bleeding disorders. It has fed my heart and soul in a way my previous job did not. The money is not even close to what I had made before, but it has not been the most important reason I have been working. I am grateful to be in a place where my family could handle the change in our lifestyle.
• I finally completed my book proposal and was offered a contract. I am busily working on my manuscript and my book will be published in 2019.
• I have started my Master of Divinity work. I am in the Journey program at Iliff Theological Seminary!
• This year I have been writing a column for a weekly publication and a quarterly one (and getting paid to write) 🙂
• And it has been the year of starting a podcast for people in ministry.
Honestly, I don’t know if I ever truly had time to work full-time!
I can easily think about the things that I have not been successful in accomplishing this year, but when I look at my list of accomplishments and I think back to how I felt when I lost my job, I am overwhelmed with gratitude.
Change is inevitable. It happens whether we like it or not. When you see the glass as half-full and not half-empty, it’s amazing how you can accept new things.
And you are able to appreciate the blessings in your life with an open heart.
