A quick trip to New Mexico was just what I needed. I had an appointment on the books and made plans to stay with one of my dearest friends…aka “Maggie Poo.” We planned to go horseback riding the next morning. I joined her and her amazing husband for dinner, we watched a couple of movies and I slept great…until thunder woke me up.

“Are you kidding me? Rain?” I hadn’t ridden in two months, my soul needed to ride! Fortunately the weather calmed down and we went on a great trail ride. We did some true cross country riding and it was wonderful. There is something different about the way you breathe when you get into the saddle. Everything seems to melt away. With all of the recent rain, the smell of sage filled the arroyos with wildflowers blooming. In the desert this is a treat. The sky was overcast with clouds hovering over the mountain and the coolness of the morning was a welcomed guest. It was pretty perfect. I could have ridden for hours had I not needed to get back home or need medical attention to get off the horse 🙂

My family’s recent move has been an answered prayer, but being away from my friend who shares her love of horses with me has left an emptiness that I cannot fill. But what I realized is that no matter how far away I am our friendship endures. This is what is important.

I need to make sure I make time for my friends. Unfortunately, my closest friends do not live very close to me, but in our day and age, maintaining relationships across the miles is possible.

But nothing compares to hugging a neck.

Today I Am Thankful For:

  1. rain
  2. new tires
  3. schoolbooks
  4. bird seed
  5. family
