If you are a pet lover and have had little critters come into your life, you understand how deeply they impact your soul. I am a dog lover. Growing up, I never had more than one dog at a time and they were strictly outside dogs. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I had an indoor dog. When I had two dogs at a time, it was pretty amazing. It was double the love and fun. My shelties were wonderful. We would play soccer, they would herd the ball (and the vaccuum cleaner) and life was filled with joy for my sons with their companions.
There is something special about how a dog loves their human. You are the center of their world. They don’t judge you. You can mess up and receive instant forgiveness. Dogs don’t hold grudges. When you need a listening ear, not only will they not pass judgment, they will not offer advice! It’s amazing how much better you feel after those one sided conversations. They simply tilt their heads from one side to the other, or lay patiently at your feet as you rehash the latest bit of drama that you need to release.
Probably the best thing that dogs offer is their overwhelming compassion. They have that keen sense of knowing when things are wrong. If you are sick they give you a little more attention. If you are hurting they put their head in your lap. And if you are sad with a broken heart, it’s as if their heart is breaking right along with you. In those moments you truly know that you are not alone.
Isn’t it funny how dog spelled backwards is God?
