Self-care is good for the soul. Ugh. I know you have heard all about self-care over the years. Take a walk, get a manicure, go for a hike, eat healthy, etc. All of these things are great, but what about thinking outside of the box? What about music?
I love the hair bands of the 80s. The majority of what I listen to in my car is 80s music. Van Halen is one of my all-time favorites. Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, is starting out and crushing it! I’m a 54-year-old woman, and I love his music. He came to the New Mexico State Fair on Friday, and I bought a single ticket. Buying a ticket for my sons or husband would have been a waste of money. They just don’t have the same appreciation for great rock and roll. 😊
While my husband was walking around the fair, I went to the rodeo (not even close to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo) and saw some bull riding. I waited anxiously for the concert. The final bull was ridden, and the stage began to lower from the ceiling.
I thought I would be the oldest one in attendance, but let me tell you, there were all kinds of folks waiting to hear Wolfie. There were folks with old Van Halen tour shirts, as well as Ozzy and Metallica. It was quite a sight. Then there I was, sitting in what seemed to be a section reserved only for me.
The concert was amazing. I can’t put into words how energizing and exciting it was to hear this amazing young artist crush it!
When I left, my heart was racing. I had an adrenaline rush that lasted until I got home (this gal does not normally keep late hours). It took me a bit to realize what I had done by buying a single ticket.
This was the ultimate in self-care.
I didn’t need a manicure; I needed some great music to speak to my soul. I am so glad I followed my heart and bought that ticket.
What can you do that is outside of the box in the name of self-care? While I have been to numerous concerts over the years, I count this one as life-changing because it awakened me to the need I have for deeper self-care.
I will continue to work on losing a few pounds, exercise more often, and meditate regularly, etc., but life is too short not to feed your soul.
Buy that ticket! Take the trip. Risk more and listen to what your heart is yearning for.
