Last night I attended a wonderful anniversary celebration for a couple who have been married for 55 years. 55 years! They are a vibrant, spunky pair. I hope that Joe and I are able to live lives filled with the kind of spunk they have when we hopefully are their age.
This amazing couple is one of many in our church congregation who are leading very full lives in their retirement. I am often stunned when I find out how old some of these amazing people actually are!
Today my dad would have been 89 years old. He died 9 years ago and I think of him often.
I wish he was still here, but only if his health would have let him live a full life.
I’ve written about my dad many times and today the one thing that keeps coming to my mind is the amazing compassion that made him the person he was. He always had a few extra dollars to help someone in need, could always muster up an encouraging word to help you achieve your goals and he just never wanted to see anyone in pain. He would do whatever he could to stop their pain and just couldn’t understand why money wouldn’t always fix it 🙂
His laughter filled a room and I can still feel the touch of his hand.
Happy Birthday, Daddy.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Matthew 25:23 (NIV)
