My word for 2013 is Joy and I find that sometimes I forget to find the joys in my daily living.
But yesterday it hit me right between the eyeballs.
In the lower level of my home (basement) there are windows that allow you to see the backyard (most especially the “feet” of whoever is outside). This is where my family spends most of our time and my office is also in this room. I was working on my computer and my husband was watching television when all of a sudden we heard our dogs barking and a tennis ball was being thrown across the yard. We saw the little feet of our seven year old running and fetching the ball for the dogs (fetching is “beneath” them) 🙂 It was not the craziness of my son fetching but the fact that he was running. Running like all little boys should be doing on a summer morning in their bare feet outside.
My husband and I looked at each other and smiled. It was the first morning in a couple of months that our son has been able to run outside. Most people take for granted the fact that their children do what children do. We forget that the simple things, the things that come easily for most are an accomplishment at times for others.
My heart was overwhelmed hearing the barking of my dogs and the giggles of my son. I’ll take those moments when I can get them.
It’s not that those moments are few and far between…it’s that sometimes I forget to pay attention.
Thank you, God, for waking me up. I’m paying attention.
Today I Am Thankful For:
