This is the first time in 23 years I have not made Easter baskets for my boys. Yes, the Easter Bunny (aka E.B.) still visits my adult son 😊 Since he is away this year and quarantine is our new way of life, I didn’t buy candy and goodies for baskets. It wasn’t essential shopping, so I chose to let E.B. send surprises via Amazon to both of my sons.

But there is one special basket that I set out each year on my dining room table. It’s a bucket that my mom bought almost 30 years ago for her grandchildren to use for their first Easter egg hunts. The pail was cracked, and dusty and the bunny was looking a little worn, so I bought a new pail and freshened him up. Seeing him sit on my table reminds me of the little hands that clutched the handle of the pail. It would swing back and forth while the little boys who held the pail in their chubby little hands would bend down to grab a brightly colored egg filled with chocolates. That little pail takes me back to the days where my boys would have chocolate under their fingernails and all over their faces as they enjoyed the treats E.B. would bring them. I can see them in their Easter Oshkosh overalls and sandals, sitting on the grass and opening their eggs. These memories are alive and well in my heart.

Easter brings back amazing memories. I bet my mom had no idea that when she bought that little pail that it would hold so many memories. And that it would last for such a long time. No matter where we are in the world, even while in quarantine, we can make memories that are more precious than any amount of money.

My heart breaks for those who are suffering from the virus. The numbers on the nightly news are almost too much to bear. But today I give great thanks to my God. For keeping me and my family safe and healthy and for giving us more time to make special memories.

I hope that you and yours are doing the same.

Today I Am Thankful For:

  2. A clean house
  3. Online school
  4. Phone calls from my son
