“Hi, my name is Cazandra and I believe the glass is half full.”

In my twenties I would have not answered that way.  I grew up with a very pessimistic perspective on things.  It’s not because my parents treated me in a negative way, that’s just who I was.  Was.

Recently I attended a book study.  It is filled with thought provoking questions and everyone in the group has wonderful ideas to contribute.  This particular night a member of our group brought an answer from a topic the previous week.  We ended up hearing some very black and white interpretation of scripture…very black and white.

I am a much more liberal “theologian” and was completely caught off guard by the person’s answers.  That’s the beauty of book studies and Bible studies, everyone has their interpretation and you can take it or leave it, but it does make you consider things you may have never thought of to begin with.

This particular meeting made me realize how far I have come over the years.  To say I was a “negative Nancy” was an understatement.  I just could not see the good in things.  Getting married, having children (with special medical needs), and changing careers sure did take care of the extreme pessimism that rooted in my being.

  • I want to see the best in everyone.
  • I want to give people the benefit of the doubt.
  • I believe in the “gray areas” in life, because it’s not all black and white.

And as for the Word of God?  I believe the main theme of the entire book is Love.  Sometimes it’s hard to see the love particularly when studying the Old Testament, but it’s there.
