Way, way back when my husband and I were newly married, I had issues with my mother-in-law. We just didn’t get along. My mother would fuss at me and tell me, “Cazandra, she is going to be here long after I am gone, you need to develop a relationship with her!”
She was right. And I did. And it was really, really good. But my mother-in-law was taken from this world way too soon.
When both of your parents are gone as well as your in-laws you can’t help but feel truly alone. It doesn’t matter that you have a loving spouse and children, it’s a feeling that leaves you changed. But there is someone that has helped me through the years after my parents and mother-in-law have been gone. God put an angel in my life.
She is my mom’s best friend…Minnie.
Minnie lives hundreds of miles away from me, but has always only been a phone call away…and now she texts! 🙂
When she has her mind set on something you better look out! If she wants a wall torn down in her home, you better hide the hammer. If she wants to make a quilt or a craft, she doesn’t need experience, she’ll make it happen…and it will be beautiful. And her children will tell you that she will never give up on anyone and that she loves like no one else.
I call her to “check-in”, to tell her about the wonderful things my sons are doing, and I call her when I am sobbing as I am driving home from the hospital where my little boy has spent way too much time. She always has the right words, I feel her prayers lifting my family up constantly and it’s as if I am talking to my mom.
I thank God for so many things and today, on Minnie’s birthday, I want to take a moment to thank God for creating this amazing woman who has touched my life in amazing ways. I don’t know if she knows how important she has been to me and my family over the past 17 years since my mom passed away.
I love you Minnie, happy birthday.
