June 13th was a day that surpassed my wildest dreams. I was ordained a Deacon in Full Connection in the United Methodist Church. I was overwhelmed by those who came to support me. Members from my precious St. Paul’s Socoro congregation, members of St. Stephen’s UMC (where I often preach and offer pastoral care), and my home congregation of FUMC Belen were present on this glorious night.

Becoming an ordained clergy member was never part of my life’s plan. Instead of retiring from teaching middle school band, I am answering my calling as a hospice chaplain. Never in a million years did I imagine this would be where I would land.

I marvel at the fact that I am 55 years old and in my fourth career. Some have applauded me for being courageous enough to try something new. Well, Beloved, applause is not necessary. The working of the Holy Spirit moved me to the places where I have (and am) living into my calling. I haven’t done anything special; I just listened and answered.

Is anything holding you back? I challenge you to listen instead of immediately disregarding the nudging of the Spirit.

You may be surprised at where God leads you.

Today I Am Thankful For:

  3. a workplace that appreciates its employees
