I believe the world would be a much different place if each of us believed in ourselves wholeheartedly. Not just sometimes, but all of the time (maybe even just “most” of the time).
Don’t get me wrong. I am not talking about perfection, because no one is perfect, except for the One who created us…that is true perfection.
I find myself running around trying to fill the roles of wife, mother, colleague, advocate, pastor’s wife, teacher…the list goes on and on just like everyone else. When things are going well, the pantry is filled, gas is in the car, laundry is done, projects at work at are moving along, and the house is presentable something will happen to make my feelings of self-worth go into the abyss of “I’m not worthy, I have failed, I am not enough.”
It doesn’t take much to mess me up. Instead of eating a salad for lunch, I cave in and have a burger and fries. Another day goes by that I don’t exercise. I am not doing a great job with nightly third grade homework and most of it gets done on Sunday evening. My Bible study lessons are done in one evening instead of a chapter each day…..geez, I could go on and on about the things that happen every day that get me off track! And what I tend to believe is that “I am not enough.”
The prophet Zephaniah give us a great nugget of truth.
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
The scripture does not read He will take great delight in you “only if you are a certain weight” or “only if your children make good grades.” It doesn’t even say that He will take great delight in you “if you spend time in prayer every day.”
And Beloved, can you imagine someone “rejoicing over you with singing?” How amazing is that?!
You are enough. I am enough. We are not perfect, but if we start each day fresh with a willingness to surrender ourselves to God how can we go wrong?
