Sometimes I think about where I am in my life and am pretty amazed. The fact that I changed careers, moved to a new state and live with passion is almost too much to comprehend. In my former life as a band director I was happy, but not completely. It took God’s nudging (actually he placed a job in my lap) to move to a new career and I have never looked back.
I know without doubt that my career in the healthcare industry as an advocate has given me opportunities beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve spoken across the country, been inspired to give a TEDx talk and the best part is that I have worked with families living with bleeding disorders, and that is reward in itself.
If I had stayed in Houston and continued to teach I am pretty sure I would not be the person I am today. Dare I even say that I may have felt like a victim of “Why didn’t I do something else? Is there more?”
I feel like a heroine. I really do. I have written many new chapters to my story and I do not regret any part of where I have been. When I speak to women’s groups my message is always one of hope. I want my message to inspire women to live lives that are passionate and challenging. There is nothing wrong with wanting more out of life and taking charge of who you are and what you want is a gift.
God has made each of us unique…each a masterpiece that will never be repeated. If we are not happy with our lives, then it is in our power to make change. It doesn’t necessarily take money or a location change to change our lives…the change needs to start in our hearts.
As for the chapters yet to come in my story, I have some ideas, and I cannot wait!
Today I am Thankful For:
- All of the heroines in my life
- A red blouse
- All of my family under the same roof
- Chicken and rice
- Going back to work!
