As I look outside my window to my newly established garden, on an unusually overcast New Mexico day, I feel a huge amount of contentment and peace. For almost a year the parsonage that my family and I have made our home is inviting and comfortable and the warmth, and happiness that lives inside the walls is sometimes overwhelming. My front porch is filled with pots of flowers as well as my rusty, red wagon. My rocking chair is waiting for me to come, rock, and enjoy the breeze (and catch up on some reading).
I wish my mom was here to celebrate with me. We would hopefully have been together, enjoying each other’s company over a meal, watching a movie, or maybe taking a Sunday afternoon siesta. And how I wish my mother-in-law, Ruby, was here as well. We would probably have done the same thing, except I am sure she would have managed to have us get some shopping in before the day was over. I hope these wonderful women know that it is because of their influence that I am where I am at today.
There is nothing I want more than for my children to be happy and content. Seeing them find their way in the world is exciting, scary, and an absolute wonder. I hope they are able to see how a life well lived can end up with such contentment in the way my husband and I live. Today I will continue to think about the women who have shaped me into the woman I have become.
May we all share the influence given to those who are hungry to find their way.
