My husband is working on is Doctorate of Ministry degree at Austin Presbyterian in Austin, Texas. He goes to Austin for two weeks in January and June to fulfill his requirements in residence. I am thrilled that he is working on his degree, but I hate when he is gone. Two weeks is a long time to be apart.
I don’t miss him because of the “duties” I need to handle at home in his absence, I miss him because he is my bestie. We have been together for almost 28 years and we finish each other’s sentences. I know what he wants to order at a restaurant, what movies and books he enjoys and we can truly be together in silence and be happy. I adore him.
As for being the father of my children, I don’t think I could have ever prayed for a better dad to my children. He has a variety of “tickles,” the Tickle Shark, Hurricane Tickles, Moo Cow Tickles, and the list goes on. He sings with my oldest son and the blend of their voices is like no other. And hearing my husband guide my sons as they make difficult decisions always leads to moments filled with compassion and trust.
I never dreamed I would be so blessed to have such an amazing man in my life.
Happy Father’s Day, Joe. We are so blessed to have you in our lives.
