callingCalling. It’s a word that people associate with being called into ministry. We are all called to different things. Teaching, speaking, writing, counseling, parenting…there are so many things. I don’t think we are called to only one thing in life. I’ve had two, successful careers with who knows what to come next! Calling is something that if we are fortunate and pay attention, we may just get to live fully into our calling in this lifetime.

I thought I was settled into my calling until I lost my job. Finding another job that met my salary needs has not been easy. If I had given in and kept in the same line of work I would have been successful, but I knew that it was time to take a chance, step out in faith, and move towards a calling I’ve had on my heart.

For years I had not felt an urge to go back to school, but I finally felt like it was time. In 2011, I was accepted at Iliff Theological Seminary to begin work on my Master’s degree.  I was working full-time, so going to school part-time was the plan. I completed 8 hours of school and then Caeleb’s hemophilia started to take over. It just wasn’t time for me, so I put school on the back burner.

Now, without a full-time job and a couple of side jobs that keep me busy enough, I have time to go back to school. I am happy to say that I have been accepted to return to Iliff as a Journey MDiv student! As excited as I am, I am equally terrified. I am going to give it a go as a full-time student this fall. I am not exactly sure what I am looking for with this degree, but what I do know right now is that I want to be well-versed when I speak at women’s events. I want to have more tools in my toolbox when I prepare sermons, and most importantly, I want to truly understand why I believe what I believe.

It’s funny how in a season of doubt comes something that you are so incredibly sure of that it smacks you between the eyeballs 🙂

God has given me a gift of time. I am not going to miss out. I give thanks to God, for the blessings in my life and the opportunity to do something I have dreamed of for so long.

Today I Am Thankful For:

  1. an unexpected cool evening
  2. bathing dogs
  3. muscle relaxers (prescription, of course)
  4. Sunday lunch
  5. tennis balls
