When I am in the middle of something awful, something like my Caeleb’s pain, a lengthy hospitalization, the loss of my job, or even being verbally attacked, I feel like the world is coming down all around me. “Surely I won’t make it through this! Things will never get better!” But it never fails…I keep breathing, keep praying, keep doing the next, right, thing, and then a new day comes, and my perspective on what seemed to be the end of the world is considerably more hopeful.
Why do I put myself through the anxiety, stress and worry of a situation to the point of being physically ill?!
I am human. It’s as simple as that, I. Am. Human.
I recently came across this prayer, a simple five lines of wisdom that sums up just about every situation you would be worrying about. The truth is that God never changes. Not only is He on the other side of the terrible situation waiting for you with open arms, He is right next to you as you cry tears for your sick child.
He is right next to you when your job prospects are lean.
He is right next to you when others tell untruths about you.
He stands next to you, holding you close, catching your tears (and trying to calm your anger) as you try to understand why certain things happen and why people behave badly.
When we are patient (much harder for some of us) and take the time to wait, listen and breathe, it’s amazing how God will touch you and nudge your heart.
If we have God, what more do we need? I have one friend who would say, “A job, money in the bank, clothes, financial security, etc.” And I would agree. But if God is in our hearts, if He is where we put our faith and trust completely, surrendering to Him every day, then nothing else matters.
It will all work out if we stay faithful to the One who created us all.
Today I Am Thankful For:
- hamburger patties
- A new, complete set of markers
- dustbusters
- the hum of my Dad’s flourescent desk lamp
- Hulu
My first thought is, “Whoever was unkind to you, let me at them!!” I know that is the wrong response. I see only your beauty, inner and outer, and your immense love and faith. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
