Friday night we had our second Rio Rancho UMC Women in Ministry event for the year, “Lighten Your Load.”  It was a night of music, food and fellowship, prayers stations and a service project to benefit our youth.  It was a wonderful evening.

Our prayer stations were very hands on.  One station centered on words.  You went to the table with a Scrabble board and put words on the board that showed how God was working in your life.

Another station was set up with prayer braids and partners would work together and make braids as they prayed and gave their confessions to God.

But the one station that was pretty intense for me was the one on lies.

“What kind of lies do we tell ourselves?”  “What kind of lies to others tell about us?”  Each woman wrote down their lies after looking into mirrors on the table and took their lists and nailed them to the cross.  When I went back into that room at the end of the evening to sit in silence, the words on the cross just broke my heart.

“I am not worthy.”

“I am ugly.”

“I am fat.”

“Nothing I say matters.”

“I’m not a good mother.”

Oh, Beloved, how wrong you are.  The voices you hear telling you these lies are wrong.  God has created each of us in his image so how can anything be wrong with that?  Remember these truths:

You are Beautiful.

You are Treasured.

You are Worthy.

You are a Child of God.

You are Enough.

Today I am Thankful For:

  1. Clouds and rain
  2. A full night’s sleep
  3. Medical leave with benefits
  4. Friends you can always count on
