My heart walks on two very handsome legs in the world. My firstborn, my Julian. He is the one that made me a mother twenty-three years ago. The moment he was laid on my chest, I fell into an “overwhelming-love at first sight-suffocating kind of love” that is hard to put into words.

My son…

  • the musician who takes my breath away when he sings.
  • the painful introvert who transforms when he is onstage (just like his mama).
  • with whom I share a connection that is so deep, real and authentic that it sometimes scares me.
  • who “gets” me.

Julian is finding his way in the world in his own time, not mine, and as I have seen him mature into the young man he has become, I see why it has taken time. His personality and dreams are grand, and his passionate soul has needed nurturing. Now is his time.

I want him to find his footing in the world, get his career off the ground and fall in love. His heart is amazing, and he is compassionate to a fault, even though he would never admit it. But I know him like no one else does.

Here is to many more birthdays’ my Julian. Home is only a phone call away. And any day we can have pancakes is a pretty darn good day.

Today I Am Thankful For:

  1. Hugs from my sons
  2. Candles (even if they aren’t lit)
  3. Blue hair
  4. birthdays
  5. pancakes
