ImFine

I will admit, when I ask someone how they are doing I am not wanting to hear the litany of everything that is wrong.  I expect the obligatory, “I’m fine.”

I answer “I’m fine” before I even have the chance to think about what is going on in my life.  When I hear myself say that I am fine, I immediately think, “You are lying!”  And sometimes I want to scream, “Help me!”  I think I would send many folks running if they wanted an honest answer from me 🙂

We all have struggles and the key to being “fine” is how we are struggling.  Are we struggling well?   I know that sometimes our struggles are ugly and discouraging, but it is when we look for the joy in our struggles that we can truly understand what our lives are about.

StruggleWell

My struggles look very different than the parent who has a child without any health problems.  My struggles look very different than a woman whose husband is not a pastor.  But my struggles help to define the woman God created me to be.  It’s all for a purpose.

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”  2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NIV)
