My youngest son developed a knee bleed on 10/18 and was admitted to the hospital on 10/21.
We are still here.
Despite the health issues of my son, life goes on. I could easily let everything come to a screeching halt, but I have to make sure that both of my boys understand that even if hemophilia rears its ugly head, the world keeps turning.
Honestly I wanted to throw in the towel, raise the white flag and just simply get under the covers and hide, but there were some extremely important things happening in our lives. My oldest son still had school commitments, my husband was out of town helping his family through his uncle’s death and came back to officiate a wedding and I really needed to keep up with things at my work. And I had the biggest speaking event I’ve ever had scheduled out of town on 10/26.
We made everything happen. It wasn’t because we are wonderful parents who can manage schedules, it’s because God has put some wonderful people in our lives to help us. One of our dear church members who offered to sit with our son while we were busy for several hours. Another who helped shuttle my oldest where he needed to be. My new friend who went out of town with me to lead worship at my event…having her with me was an enormous blessing. And a beautiful friend who helped get my oldest son home after a party. Sometimes it just “takes a village.”
I know the enemy wanted me to cancel my workshop as I went to speak to a church about being a servant. I know he wanted me to fail and not spread God’s word. I know that the enemy wanted me to feel sorry for myself and the health of my son.
But God gave me strength and continues to give me the strength I need to move forward every day.
I don’t like to give the enemy much attention but the truth is that we have to always be aware of him and know how he can show up in our lives. Like the verse in 1 Peter 5:8,
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (NIV)
I am not going to let him devour me.
