Choices.
- Doing homework or playing online.
- Saving money or spending beyond your means.
- Exercising or being a couch potato.
- Volunteering or wasting time.
- Telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth or a little white lie that will affect only the person you love by not hurting their feelings.
We have so many choices to make every day. And those choices can determine whether our day is a good one or a bad one. They can even change our path completely and it is hard for some of us to look beyond the current day we are living.
I have found that making decisions for my children is much easier than making decisions for myself. I had a plan, a journey that I wanted my oldest son to travel, but the road has twisted and turned many ways. Ways that I would have not chosen. But the truth is, I have to support my son and despite how his journey is unfolding, it is my job to help him see the “good stuff” that is ahead.
Maybe it is true that some people are pessimistic and others optimistic and seeing the good in a situation is not possible for a pessimist. I used to think of myself as a pessimist but have found that there is always something good to look forward to. You just have to keep positive and look for that silver lining.
I believe that:
- everyone has some good in them (even if they are “criminals” in the eyes of society).
- that every event in our lives has a grand purpose (God doesn’t make bad things happen to people, but He is always there to get us through the next thing)
- and with faith, hope and some love, anything and I mean anything in this world can be accomplished.
Tonight I am praying for the parents of children whose paths take some detours, for friends that are dealing with devastating illness and for hope. That everyone who is searching finds the Creator of the Universe right where he has been all along…right beside you.
Today I Am Thankful For:
- A basketful of groceries
- The clinking of dominos being shuffled
- Dogs barking (but not at 4 in the morning)
- Concern for my son’s health by a loving congregation
- VBS
