It is finally here. A new year. A clean slate. A year filled with possibilities. My One Word for 2020 was reverence. I had great plans for it mainly centering on my spiritual life. When the pandemic hit the world changed and nothing was the same. I did not give my word another thought. That happens some years. While the focus of a word is a wonderful idea, there are seasons that cause you to change your focus and that is what happened last year.
I cannot say that 2020 was a terrible year for me personally. I accepted a new position as a pastor, my family moved back to New Mexico, and I just about completed my coursework for my Master of Divinity (one class remaining), and I progressed in my ordination journey. Amid chaos, I give thanks for what an otherwise tumultuous year brought to my world.
This year my One Word is Peace. I am striving to have peace despite the craziness of the world. Peace that while I have not hugged my oldest son in almost a year, I give thanks that he is healthy and safe. Peace in my heart that the Word of God brings as I Read the Bible in a Year with friends and members of my congregation. And peace in knowing that my health is always in the front of my mind and I do all I can to take care of myself.
What is your word for 2021?
